Webinar: Omega Creep Testing for FFS and Remaining Life Decisions

Omega Creep Testing for FFS and Remaining Life Decisions
Thursday, August 24, 2023 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
Presenter: Nathanial G. Sutton, P.E.; Raj K. Patadia, E.I.T.

This webinar will describe the applications of Omega method creep testing, and how Omega testing can be used in fitness-for-service assessments to help make replacement decisions. The webinar will cover when an Omega test is appropriate, handling un-listed materials, specimen selection, metallurgical considerations, and interpretation of results. Case studies from a variety of materials will be shared.

What You Will Learn:

  • When an Omega test is appropriate to add value to a FFS assessment
  • How to plan the test including extracting samples sufficient for testing
  • Specimen orientation and number selection; test condition selection
  • Interpretation of results and manipulation of test conditions in-situ
  • Handling materials for which no Omega properties are provided in API 579
  • Incorporating Infrared and tube skin TI data into the remaining life assessment
  • How to consider other damage mechanisms (graphitization, carburization, sigma phase)

Who Should Attend:

  • Reliability Engineers
  • Fired Heater Engineers/Specialists
  • FFS Practitioners
  • Metallurgists

What Problem Does This Solve:

Obtaining the most value out of fired heater coils and other high-temperature equipment; avoiding both premature replacement and failures.
